Yuma, AZ Photographer | Magazine Cover

In my last blog post I shared a magazine feature in Bella Grace Magazine. Shortly after submitting that feature, Bella Grace reached out again with the opportunity of getting the cover! I hesitated at first, pondering on the reality of selling out blah blah blah… that’s ridiculous of course I said yes immediately! I mean, the photograph they wanted to use is one of my faves of all time. AND IT WAS THE COVER. As I mentioned in the last post, my mother passed away suddenly during that time. I know I shared the magazine cover news on social media when it published, but that time after losing my mom was dark and hazy. I wanted to do a proper blog post now to mark the accomplishment.

To be honest with you, my photos are my babies. I share my art with the pride of a new parent. I fuss over it, obsess about it, and swell with pride on the inside when someone comments kindly on it. Here’s one of my babies gracing the cover of Bella Grace Magazine, Summer 2019 Issue 20.

I want to give a huge shoutout to my dear friend, Lauren. We had a gorgeous evening together one evening in May of 2017. She was kind enough to model for me and we made this. She has a beautiful soul and I think it shows here.

Styled by me and the wind. No makeup or hair styling. Dress from Forever 21 and blanket from the thrift store. (I’m a firm believer that making art need not be expensive. And my word, look at her!)

Magazine Feature | Yuma Family Photographer

I discovered Bella Grace Magazine in the fall of 2018 near the register of Barnes and Noble. I ran my hand over the thick cover and paused to admire the photo. The art alone convinced me to buy it. Once home, I was delighted to find the magazine full of inspiration and beauty. I devoured it, but slowly as one would savor a decadent dessert. Their tagline includes the phrase “finding beauty in imperfection” and this is where they get me. In my own life and when photographing my families, my focus is on the magic of everyday life and love. The way we love is the most, THE MOST beautiful thing to witness.

I was so happy and humbled when Bella Grace reached out to me and asked to feature one of my photos in their Spring 2019 Issue 19. I’ve had the honor of photographing this family a couple times and I love this mama and her babes. The quote that Bella Grace chose (pictured below) to accompany my art is a remarkable thought on motherhood. As the magazine was published, I my own mama passed away suddenly. Almost a year later my heart is still raw, but I’m so grateful for the photos I have of my mom. Losing her brought even more meaning to the work I do.

Desert Session | Yuma Family Photographer

This mama grew up in Yuma and wanted family photos taken here to hang as art on the walls of her new home in Califormia. Her mom still lives here and it was really cool to have her included in the session. I think the boys will cherish having these photos of them with their Nana. I so enjoyed this session. Their quiet love left me feeling full of peace. And oh my gosh, her dress was stunning and absolutely perfect for the desert!
